Basic Accounting Simplified Paperback – February 1, 2011

It is not uncommon to buy something having been promised it would do exactly what it was meant to do, only to be disappointed. This book, however, meets its mission of actually simplifying the subject. I can follow the simple reasoning behind each decision to account for the money spent and why it is accounted for in the BALANCE SHEET or as PROFIT AND LOSS. Having been trained as a biomedical scientist, I find accounting to be quite logical and understandable. This is the book I need to get to grips with the language of business, before facing my MBA degree studies soon.

I don’t get why the pages aren’t numbered. About ½ the soft cover book is about posting journal entries to the trial balance - which is an odd methodology, why teach something only to undo it? Especially when not an accounting practice which is then refuted in Chapter 2. Perhaps this makes sense -or not - to a beginner- but as a retired accountant/auditor - to undo about half the book and then right track in Chapter 2 introducing the general ledger seems very strange. I am tutoring a student in Accounting 101 and this on-line learning system is hard on me -flipping screens back and forth. So I had hoped this book showed a manual methodology of the old days. Yeah. Like 1978. Not up to accounting standards and would require an accounting tutor to say what to ignore - that isn’t done this way. I may return the book.

Good book for anyone who wants to learn the basics of accounting and it has examples to help you understand better.

What I like about the product that it helped me learned the basics of how Accounting works and the steps to help me go through my accounting course in school.
