Great educational book for anyone going into education for a higher degree. It is very relevant and useful for teaching today.

There is a lot of talk in the education world about student engagement. However, rarely is actual research cited to support what "increases student engagement." Schlechty's defines and breaks down engagement.I find Schlechty's levels of engagement to be very helpful in thinking about learning design.
