Is there any disadvantage to the 48" versus the 31" version? Is it less stable at all? Is it difficult to transport and use in tighter spaces?

I purchased both the 11.5", the 31" and also have a different brand from the past, a 40" model.  Learning from my old 40" unit, I did not need to slide that long, and found my self only using part of the slide.  The footage would be a long shot, unless I ran it faster, so I find the track longer than I needed.  I felt the shot was too long to watch.  BUT in a different situation, the 31" could have been a little longer for me on a set-up I used shooting a 10 camera video shoot for a top local band.  I used the 31" to do acring/up-incline shots of the drummer.  I had it set in the loop mode, and I loved the shot.  Only concern, be sure it's on solid grounds, not a raiser as any shakes can affect your footage.  My shot starts an incline going from a low waist-up shot of the drummer, going up arcing around the drums then turning towards the front of the drummer as you can see throughout the whole time, the drummer jamming.  So answering your question, it all varies on your needs.  For my run and gun weddings, carrying a 40" was pretty big and these electric sliders do take time to set-up.  The case that the slider comes with, it not good for run and gun because you would still need to mount the head on it.  You are limited to full "arc" using the GoPro 5 Black in full wide as the lens will see the end of the slider tracks.  Mid setting on the lens hides that.  So using a dslr with little more zoom, hides all of that and you can get away hiding the tracks.  But overall, when you figure your set-up, this slider is a good investment for about $350.  Like I said, I have two.  Enjoy your creative productions!
