I need to send a signal to the Arduino to activate a switch will this board do that? Specifically is It able to send ether a digital or analog signal?

The shield sends and receives DMX serial messages through a special cable. It can’t be connected to simple analog or digital switch sensors. However, the shield does expose the Arduino digital and analog pins that you can connect to sensors in the usual way.

can this be used to receive dmx from a falcon pi player to control pixels ?

Got it working when I discovered I needed a dmx terminator.

The instructions given by a previous reviewer were spot on but I couldn't get it working at all. I am a total noob at DMX and didn't know that you need a 120ohm resistor at the end of a line. Even when I read about it, I didn't think it was required because I was only running one device. I tried a shorter cable and it sprang life then I tried the longer cable and put a 120ohm resistor into the dmx out of the device and it worked. I have ordered a DMX terminator :)
