Extra virgin olive oils are very different from refined grades of olive oil – such as “light” or “pure” oils – which are made using heat or chemicals. Extra virgin olive oil, by contrast, essentially is freshly pressed fruit juice. They crush the olives and extract the oil using only mechanical methods, never using any high heat or solvents. All of their oils at California Olive Ranch are certified extra virgin by the California Olive Oil Council (COOC), passing both rigid chemical and sensory evaluations. Their extra virgin olive oils are also verified non-GMO by the Non-GMO Project, as well as certified kosher by Orthodox Union. About California Oilve Ranch Founded in 1998, they were the first company to take American olive oil to a whole new level. While olives have grown in California for hundreds of years, they’ve pioneered new ways of cultivating and harvesting olives in order to make their extra virgin olive oil premium and affordable. They’ve developed their own ranches and helped family farmers throughout Northern California develop previously unusable farm acreage into olive orchards. The approach they take on growing olives uses time honored farming techniques while fully embracing modern technology; they even have apps that chart the history of each orchard. And they use sustainable production methods every step of the way. All of their extra virgin olive oils are certified extra virgin by the California Olive Oil Council (COOC). Most importantly, it’s the people who make their company great. Their founders were captivated by the spirit of the California wine movement. Decades ago nobody looked to California as a leading wine purveyor, but through hard work and ingenuity California wines are now among the best in the world. They were founded to do the same with olive oil. Their CEO made a transition to farming from the high-tech world of Silicon Valley. He became enamored with the craft of making great olive oil, and loves leading a business that is so closely rooted to the land. Fresh, great tasting extra virgin olive oil inspires everything they do at California Olive Ranch. So they’ve made it their mission to make the highest quality extra virgin olive oil accessible to as many people as possible. They’ll do it by continuing to live out their values, day after day. Disrupting The Status Quo They’re transforming the olive oil industry and showing that when it comes to purity and quality, not all olive oils are created equal. They do it by growing on California ranches, finding innovative ways to plant and harvest olives to develop high-quality olive oils at reasonable prices and encouraging transparency across the olive oil industry. Passion They love what they do – and how they do it– from the care they put into creating their extra virgin olive oil to the kindness they show their employees and farm families. Their passion pushes us to continually craft the freshest extra virgin olive oil. Quality For All They’ve pioneered new ways of growing and pressing olives in order to make their extra virgin olive oil premium and affordable. And they’ll continue combining new ways of doing things with time-honored agrarian wisdom in order to ensure as many people as possible get to experience the transformative power of great olive oil. Sustainability They’re California farmers with a strong connection to the land. They believe that taking care of the Earth’s resources is the right thing to do – and leads to better olive oil. They mulch their fields with tree trimmings, reuse all of the water that enters their mill, offer their leftover
