I bought this to jazz up a faux botanical arrangement. The moss worked perfectly and there was no odor. You can pull the moss apart, but do it over newspaper to avoid a mess. I have also used the moss to fill in gaps between a potted live plant and a larger container. One package is large enough to do 5-6 plants, unless you need to fill in larger gaps.

I use this to cover the soil in all of my potted house plants. It is great: clean, loose enough to give depth and texture, long-lasting. The only mess is tearing off the right amount for your pot so do this some newspaper for easy cleanup.

This looks beautiful dressing up containers of all types and sizes, and it offers some heat protection for the roots. I highly recommend it.
