In 2008 an amateur telescope maker and astronomer ppublished an ingenious new way to easily focus your DSLR, webcam or CCD camera for taking astrophotos. The method is simple, very intuitive and the device has universally been named after the inventor. The Bahtinov Mask. Farpoint manufactures this *LIFESAVING* astrophotography tool out of virtually indestructable ABS plastic and comes in two major types and in a range of sizes. One mask is a general purpose mask designed to fit refractors and newtonian telescope. The other mask is designed to fit Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes. Both types of mask are available in a range of sizes to cover your needs.

Works very well! Plastic a bit thin... but great customer service!
This mask works very well and I actually somewhat prefer a plastic one over metal as others have complained the metal counterparts can have very tiny metal shavings come off. This mask ships in shrink wrap. In my case, the shrink wrap had warped the mask quite a bit by the time I received it. When I removed it from the shrink wrap, I gently tried to bend the mask back into shape and then, SNAP! It broke in two places. The plastic is quite thin, so DO NOT try bending it! I called Farpoint however and they shipped me a new replacement mask for free. I am quite pleased with their customer service!

Simply perfect.
It's amazing how someone could come up with such a thing, but Bahtinov did it and it works. This is a very cool invention that makes your stars perfectly crisp.

Not sure how I focused my AT6RC without this. This is the best accessory I purchased for astrophotography. It is a must have.

at best this is a poor copy
Actually no stars, it's flimsy and poorly made, the set screws don't function properly...The Bahtinov design originated from Russia, at best this is a poor copy...After looking at different types there are better mask for the money, Astrozap or the Gosky Bahtinov hands down!

Very pleased with the Farpoint Bahtinov mask
Prompt delivery! Just had the opportunity to use it for one session ,so still getting familiar with the image. Worked as expected giving a fine-tuned focus.
