Q: Does this switch need constant pressing to raise/lower the shutter? Or, can you press it and walk away whilst the shutters go all the way up/down?

It is ON OFF ON, remains in last selected position. So yes press and walk away shutters will go all the way up/down

Q: what type of back box did you purchase for this switch? any help would be appreciated

It fits any regular UK single gang back box (switch isn't great to be honest, it should really spring back to the centre after letting go, rather than keeping driving the door up or down)

Q: This will be for a awning, where a 4 core cable comes from the motor to the switch,& a 3 core cable from switch to mains. Does this have 5 terminals?

mine has 4 core from switch to motor but only 3 are used. you do NOT have mains going to switch then control cable. mains obviously goes to motor then only 3 are used back to switch

Does exactally as it says on the tin.

Well the switch is what’s expected, it works as it should, the only issue I had was the lock holes to secure the switch had a small diameter so the screws did not fit, had to get some more with a smaller head bit this is minor and not a major issue

bought 5 and 2 didnt work, wonder how long the others will last

wasted a lot of time fitting and testing faulty switches that did not work

Hard to turn off

I bought 3 of these to control roller shutters at a business premises. 1 of the 3 was faulty. The other 2 I found it hard to switch the shutter to the off position, alternating instead between, up, down and off. A better design would be 2 way up and down with automatic shutoff when neither up nor down is pressed.
