Oregon Kombucha Complete Starter Kit - Coconut Green Tea 9.6 oz(272g)

After reading lots of reviews, I decided not to buy a complete kombucha kit (e.g., on with the jar, spoon, cloth, etc.) and fashioned my own set-up for use with OK's tea, sugar, and scoby. The price was right and it was simple to make. Everything arrived quickly (which is good, considering the scoby is alive) and the process was easy: just oil water, brew and cool the tea, throw everything together, and wait. Mine took a while to get to where I wanted it (a Vermontwinter is chilly, so things went slower) and for a bit, I thought the scoby had died. Just in case, I added the dregs of two bottles of store-bought 'buch and it came alive. Now I have three jars in the fridge and a HUGE, healthy scoby to make more any time. I say go for it and start with this kit. As long as you can find a non-metal container as a fermentation vessel, you are safe to start with a kit like this and save tons of money while still getting good results.

The kit arrived with good packaging, and good instructions. I got a nice glass drink dispenser with a pour tap on the bottom.I brewed the tea- actually a lot longer than the instructions indicated because I like intense flavor, Added the sugar and waited liquid to cool before adding the culture, which was a 2 inch piece of rubbery stuff sealed in a plastic bag. ( well packed! )I put a press-on aquarium thermometer on the outside of the glass jar so I could make sure the temperature was good for the culture.Left it for a few days to ferment---- you can smell the acid developing and see the culture growing. After a few days, I sampled a tiny bit-it needed a few more days. 5 days is a pretty good timeframe to begin to taste your brew, After a day or 2 more, it was nice and tangy and also carbonated! Very nice!!!! I 'm going to keep making this forever!

So I did sucessfully make kombucha and there is a new SCOBY growing, but I will say that Coconut Green Tea and the vinegary kombucha flavor are not a good mix. I will most likely discard this batch and make a new one with plain black tea. I do however recommend the seller. Everything came quickly and well packaged.

I bought a 2nd kit a few weeks ago. The first one had started growing mold, so I researched and found that it can happen if my glass jar and other tools aren't sterile. Thinking I might have made a mistake somewhere, I ended up buying another kit. The directions are very simple to follow, so other than taking longer to ferment this time of year I didn't think I'd have much trouble. This time I was extremely careful and made sure everything I used was perfect and I still ended up with a moldy batch.I'm really disappointed, because I really wanted to brew my own kombucha. I might try getting a scoby elsewhere before I give up for good.

This is a good first kit. In the end I fooled around with the mixture too much and killed it. I do not blame the DK kit. I have restarted with a scoby from another source and am running a continuous brew. No matter who you start with stick with it. I really like the results.

I would really like a replacement on this order and if it works I will write a good review...but for now losing the hefty sum you charged for the starter and the difficulty I found in contacting your company to tell them of the failure, this is the way it is...No at this time I would not recommend this company to anyone...sincerelyvery old woman who knows everything there is to know about Kombucha

The starter works great. I didn't care for the flavored green tea even though I love coconut, this tea tasted artificial to me. But, the product works great and the kit comes with very good directions to make kombucha.

This starter kit worked GREAT! The instructions were easy to follow and the resulting kombucha was AMAZING!!! I would recommend this starter kit to anyone looking to begin their own fermentation station. Probiotics are essential for optimal health and OK Kombucha makes brewing your own so easy!
