how am I meant to know that this doesn't have a standard UK plug...?

240v is a standard plug, 110v you will need a transformer which has a 3 pin round plug.

It is an sds+ drill and I believe the majority of bits available are sds+ it is an excellent drill. Sds max is another size up.
