When you want a ruggedized external hard drive look no further
I have been working in the computer industry for over 40 years now and when I need a ruggedized external hard disk that will not let you down I always go for a LaCie. They have never let me down and I use they for my external backups as they are so easy to connect/disconnect and so get locked away in a safe. They are used as backup devices for various NAS boxes and various laptop/PC operating systems and I have never had issues with compatibility.

Excellent rugged drive 👍
I own a few Lacie 5TB external drives. I am just about buy another one. Always have 3 backups on 3 discs, just in case. But so far, they are excellent drives for backups.

Not Entirely Pleased but it's Okay
I was glad the package included a cable, which surprised me. I have already used it to do a laptop backup and it worked well and reasonably fast. The only shock was self-made because I had not realised, until I read it on the LaCie website, that this drive goes to sleep after a period of non use. I had left it running all night to do a large backup and when I returned to it in the morning and tried to continue, my backup software said "drive does not exist". I then looked in Windows Explorer and Windows said "there is a problem with this drive" and my heart sank. I did Windows troubleshooting and don't know what, if anything, it found, but now the drive seems to be working well regardless. I think maybe it had gone to sleep and therefore could not be found. However, it may have had a fault, so I am just warning others of the problem. The other thing to note is that the format on the drive is exFAT so if you are using it for Windows only you might consider reformatting it to NTFS which is a little more stable. But, your choice.

Good, tough, reliable.
I use this to store all of my 3D printing files on. I store it in the laptop case and haven't been too careful with it and it's lived up the rugged behaviour. Not the fastest being a 5500 mechanical, but if you're after a big, reasonably priced, rugged external to keep all your files on hand without needing an internet connection, this will do the job.

Very impressive for the price!
Bought it to backup my MacBook Pro which it does very efficiently. Bought a second one!
