Sewing School: 21 Sewing Projects Kids Will Love To Make

I bought this for my 8 year old who wants to learn to sew. She has been very enthusiastic and has made several of the projects so far. She's really keen to be independant and this book is great for that. The instructions are clear, and the projects are achievable by kids of this age, even on their own. She can sometimes get discouraged when things don't look exactly right. The realistic pictures in this book are really helping to build her confidence with hand sewing as her finished items look like the ones shown. She's already planning her next project and we're starting to build up a sewing kit of her own (so she can stop stealing mine!)

This is perfect for any child that is interested in making things. Yes it is American and therefore the directions are in inches not centimetres but it is a wonderful introduction to sewing and how to deal with patterns. The patterns are supplied in a 'pocket' in the inside of the back page. Very clever and clear patterns for 5 years and upwards making small toys by hand sewing to making useful items with a sewing machine e.g a skirt or an apron or cushions etc. Illustrations make everything very clear and work by children also making these things are shown. So the work does look home made and original.Cutting the patterns is so well shown. Very difficult to find such a great introduction for children on dealing with patterns and cutting out material and learning the basics in such an exciting way.

My 12 year old granddaughter loved this

I purchased this to accompany a sewing box for my 5 year old granddaughter - she is a bit of a perfectionist already so the great thing about this book is that the sewing projects have been completed by children and are not all perfect. It starts with the most simple task and goes through to making simple articles with a first machine. It also has a comprehensive list of items required for your first sewing basket.

If your wanting to start to teach a small group of children this is a great book to start with. Gives you clean instructions and you get all the patterns for 21 sewing tasks. Brilliant book will buy the second one . And a great price too.

This is an excellent book with clear instructions easily understood. It goes right back to the basics and would be good for adults who have never sewed. I gave this to both my 10 year old and 7 year old grand-daughters for Christmas and they love the book. They have tackled several projects with great success.

I think its hard to choose a sewing book as it depends on your child's ability and sense of style I guess ,I did't think she would like this as she is quite precise at the moment although maybe she would , however I sent it back as I didn't really like the projects.

Lots of easy to follow simple projects for young children. My 5 year old needs help but my 7 year old can follow the 1 & 2 star projects on her own more or less. Great for a family like us that are just getting into sewing for the first time. Book is beautiful to look at. Great photos & step by step instructions. Patterns & pockets to hold them.
