I got this for my 2-year-old, and the design alone was a huge win. The little owl look is really cute, and I paired it with the stand so it sits on a tree-style bookshelf in his room. It actually blends in like decor, which I love. So far, he hasn’t tried to grab or play with it much because he thinks it “belongs” on the shelf, which is honestly a plus. It feels like a kid-friendly device without being distracting or constantly handled. Where it’s been most useful is during our nighttime routine. We use it to play music and control other Alexa devices, which makes winding down a lot smoother. It’s been reliable for that and easy to use hands-free when my hands are full. I know there are additional kid-focused features available, but I haven’t fully explored those yet, so I can’t speak to parental controls or educational content at this point. This works really well for routines, but if you’re specifically buying it for advanced kid features, you may need to spend some time setting those up and testing them. Really nice if you have your hands full and want to adjust your digital thermostat, set up an alarm, play music. Best for: parents who want a cute, simple smart speaker to support daily routines rather than a fully interactive toy. Keep in mind, you need to purchase the nest separately but they are very cute together even though it blocks the blue light at the bottom that let’s you know the owl is thinking.

We picked up the Echo Dot Kids for our house and honestly, this little dragon earned its spot fast 🐉 It’s cute enough that kids feel like it’s theirs, but smart enough that I don’t feel weird about it living in their room. Setup was simple and everything runs through the parent dashboard, which I really appreciate. During the day it’s music 🎶 jokes 😂 animal questions 🦁 and nonstop curiosity. At night it turns into stories 📖 calming sounds 🌙 and part of our bedtime routine without me having to repeat myself a dozen times. One feature I didn’t expect to love as much as I do is the ability to schedule quiet hours 🛑 Once bedtime hits, it simply stops responding. No surprise music, no middle of the night Alexa requests, no early morning wake up calls on a Saturday. It just… respects bedtime, which feels rare in kid tech. The sound quality is surprisingly good for how small it is 🔊 It fills the room without being overpowering, and the volume limits actually stay locked, so I’m not worrying about it getting cranked up too loud. Whisper mode is also one of those small things that ends up being really sweet 🤫 If your kid whispers a question at night, Alexa whispers back. It keeps the room calm and somehow makes them even more excited to use it. Another thing I didn’t realize I’d use is being able to review the kinds of questions they ask 👀 It’s a mix of funny, thoughtful, and occasionally eye opening, but it gives me a better sense of what they’re curious about without hovering or listening in all the time. I absolutely love this Echo Dot Kids edition. I bought it for my seven year old and cannot say enough good things about it. One of my favorite features is the kid friendly content. The daily kids news, fun facts, and upbeat morning music help start the day on a positive note. I also really appreciate the included books. Because we had such a great experience, I recently purchased another one for my other child. This is a well made, engaging, and durable device. I just recently purchased this for my son's 6th birthday to help him have an option for audiobooks, alarm clock, and listening to music and he LOVES it! He greets Alexa every time he gets home and says goodnight to her and gets a bedtime story from her while he waits for me to come read to him and tuck him in. We have successfully added a few Alexa skills (including Big Fart which MAY have been a mistake on my part) and so far they seem to work pretty well. Pros: - Cute dragon theme and image (Alexa introduces herself and says she likes to pretend she is a dragon and has a kid-friendly voice character) - Optional additional Dragon Egg Cradle (have not personally purchased yet but am tempted) - Great resource to allow kids access to audiobooks and learning materials with parental controls through the parent dashboard - 1 year free subscription to Amazon Kids+ which is a great deal if you have an amazon kids tablet already (same price as you already pay for a year and an echo dot? Yes please!) - An avenue for little ones to ask some of their random questions to someone other than overloaded parents - Many cool Alexa skills from independent companies (Math practice games? Yes! Talk to Pikachu? Yes!) - Alarm clock, speaker, nightlight and more in one! Cons: - Alexa can sometimes get very confused. This can be frustrating for anyone, but especially for little ones with little tolerance for the pitfalls of technology. Sometimes she doesn't hear you correctly and says she can't do something they know she can do. Sometimes she starts playing music while doing another skill and the speaker just can't take it. Sometimes she just plain doesn't listen the first 10 times you try and ask. It's........ frustrating and stressful when this happens to say the least. Teach your little one how to reset Alexa if this happens so they can feel in control instead of having a meltdown or running out screaming over her. - Not all of the Alexa skills work quite how they are meant to and will totally mess Alexa up and require a reset and removal of the skill entirely. - Alexa has very specific commands and these can be hard to remember sometimes. Consider writing out or typing up a list of the most common commands for little ones to help them remember the right order of words. - The Echo dot can get surprisingly loud and when you ask Alexa to turn down the volume it is in very small increments so you will need to do it manually if they have somehow turned it up to blasting. - After Alexa's bedtime has hit she will not respond to any commands or be able to use any skills. This includes asking her to stop playing something she already was, using a nightlight skill, or setting an alarm. The only option you have after her off time is to manually reset it so she goes quiet. The timer options are awesome tools to keep little ones from turning her on and playing with her instead of going to bed, but does restrict some of the bedtime options you could have like the nightlight. Overall, we have loved our experience with this product so far and it has only been in use for about a week (but pretty constantly). We'll see how this holds up over time!

This little owl is very durable and works very well. Not only is it entertaining but a helpful tool for helping my autistic granddaughter with her speech and learning new words. It easily recognizes her speech patterns and responds when she speaks to it. She especially likes the story feature. It filters out music with explicit lyrics, and will tell her if something isn't nice to say and give her options of things to say instead. It's compact size fits well on a shelf and the design is very cute. It will tell your child the weather if asked, as well as saying good morning and good night. Setup was easy as well.

This is a great device for kids. The design is fun, and the parental controls make it easy to manage. It works well for music, questions, and basic routines. My daughter specifically loves it for the brown noise at night time. It has cute colors and is compact.
