Cleary is hands down, by far and away the best translator of ancient Chinese texts... period! His translations are so close to the richness of Chinese that one can decipher the lesser meanings hidden within of the Tao de Ching. Like unlocking a door to somewhere else, Cleary brings true indigenous Chinese philosophies to life in this transformative text. It is a top 5 if I had to run out the door.. this one is at the top... it will never get old, ever!

Shipping was fast!My only complaint is that the book was described as "like new", and it was perfect, except the dust jacket was misaligned on the book. It's really not that big of a deal, my boyfriend still loves his Valentine's Day gift. I just wish I would have been aware of this instead of finding out when I received the book.Other than the discrepancies between the product description and the actual product, I am happy with my purchase.

Very good product, I have always liked the translations by Cleary and notes on the topics that are confusing. I would recommend books by Cleary on topics such as this as they elaborate on the originals.
