What is the width between the two clips?

Hello, thank you for your question. The Nylon Bridge handle is a flexible handle. The handle can be adjusted to fit the width of your dog's back.

Does the handle stay up when not being held? If I were to let go then reach for it will it still be up for me to grab or will I need to bend down?

This handle is flexible and will not stand up on its own. When you let go it will lay flat on the dogs back.
