The two crossing pieces are connected with a "lap joint" connection, or an overlapping joint, which insures it's strong enough to resist the pressure generated to clamp down the strings as well as the fact that it's made out of very dense and strong wood. This is a delicate art piece to mount on your guitar, may not be as strong as a metal capo but it's strong enough to clamp even on a 12 string guitar. So it will last a long time as long as you take care of it well. Makes a perfect gift for guitarists! Made from Bloodwood, music wire spring, leather, cowhide, brass. Beautiful Capo, I bought this for a gift for my niece, I do not use them. I tried it out though and it works very well.Sure there are some metal ones out there that work better, but for the look I like it. I just may change my key so I can get me one lol.No I am old style, I know about 12 chords but can play any song with them.I really like the feel and look of this.I cannot say anything bad about it. It is a specialty item and they took the time and care to make it look great.
