Glass Carboy 23 Liter, 1.9-Pound Box

I figured I'd write a review since the latest was about 6 months ago. I ordered these from Amazon directly as they were very reasonably priced - The cheapest you will ever find unless you get lucky on some used ones on craigslist. Quality - This is your standard "mexican" style 23L carboy. Thick-walled, sturdy, great-quality carboy. It does have the lines in it like the picture shows. I am not too keen on the lines, but a slight twist every couple days while settling prevents anything from getting stuck in them. Price - I already mentioned you aren't going to find this anywhere cheaper - unless your a distributor or buy used. Shipping - Amazon said 5-6 weeks, which I was fine with; I didn't need them right away. I ordered two on March 29th and they were at my door on April 14th. Two and a half weeks is more than reasonable for free shipping on 19 lb items. Packaging - This was my main concern - how can Amazon ship a 19 lb over-sized carboy cheaply with it arriving unscathed? The answer is, they just can. They each came in a box, within a box, within packaging paper, within another box. Seems like they were just as worried as I was. They both came in without any damage whatsoever. All and all, if you are in need of some carboys, I would buy them here. I'll be getting a few more pretty soon.

I have been watching this item for months. Was about to buy this summer when the price went up sharply and shipping charges added. Back to watching. Amazon then lowered price to $30 and solicited a sign up for a subscription plan which promised free shipping and a discount from current price. I tried to subscribe but the order form didn't recognize subscription and tried to charge full price. I backed off. On September 21, I ordered two carboys. They arrived via Fedex this morning (Sep 27). Carboys were shipped cardboard box in cardboard box in cardboard box with much packing paper. Both arrived intact. The carboys seem of excellent quality and clear. I expected a greenish tint but seemed clear in strong sunlight. I intend to buy dozens more for winemaking as budget permits. March 21, 2012 comments: I ordered another pair of these 23 Liter carboys about ten days ago. They arrived this AM (March 21, 2012)via USPS. The packaging this time was only box in box with bubble wrap. Both arrived safely. The inner boxes said "made in China" which surprised me. They appear to be suitable for wine making which is all I need. Plan to purchase more when the price and shipping are agreeable.

I purchased two of these for brewing beer. For the price you cannot beat it. If I can give any advice, get one of these and get one 5 gallon carboy for racking. I bought two of these and my only regret is not getting something smaller as a secondary so that there is less space. But if your planning on doing a lot of dry hopping or adding wood chips, this is a perfect secondary as well as a primary. My one complaint is that I needed to figure out on my own that it uses size 7 bung plugs which nowhere on the box or on the amazon page did I see. But again, that is my one and only complaint. They were shipped in perfect shape and are of great quality.

OK, so it's a 23 liter glass carboy. It is exactly like the $40 one at my LHBS, it may in fact be the same line. Free shipping and no sales tax make this a great great deal compared to anything else I've ever found. Mine arrived after about 4 days, much faster than I anticipated. The glass is flawless (no dings or bubbles). The packaging leaves a little to be desired--basically, it's in a form-fitting cardboard box, that's then snugly placed inside another cardboard box (no padding other than the cardboard). I'm sure they break on occasion during shipping, so I wouldn't schedule a brewing or secondary fermentation day around this item's scheduled arrival. The boxes are great for storing the carboy as well. Overall, I'm very happy. I plan on picking up a few more so I can keep my brewing cycle going a bit more regularly. UPDATE: Just wanted to note that I've now ordered 2 more and in every case they've been shipped immediately, arrived within 48 hours, and have had no issues with packaging. I think they get shipped from Eastern Massachusetts (where I also live) so your results may vary.

After a search from local supply shops and the internet, there isn't a better deal on a 6 gallon/23 litre glass carboy out there. I paid $28.00 thru Amazon Prime and got an Italian made glass carboy in two days. A week later I bought a second one in case the price goes up. These are heavy European glass and take a #7 drilled bung. The only issue is the crossing pattern in the molded glass that catches some of the settling sediment on the sides that would normally not stick in a smooth sidewall carboy. But you know that up front from the picture and once a week I just take both hands and gently spin it back and forth a few inches two or three times and the sediment falls to the bottom. You don't need to lift it up at all while disloging the sidewall crud. For a third the price, those few seconds of trouble are worth it. This is even cheaper than buying a 5 gallon bottle of water to use the plastic jug as a carboy! Very Satisfied. 8/2011 Update - Just ordered another one. Since I have been brewing so much wine, I needed another 6 gallon carboy. I started to panic since this deal wasn't available from Amazon for a couple of months. It went to an Amazon seller plus tax that equalled about $60 with shipping. Amazon finally restocked it at $30 + an additional discount with the subscription service. I jumped on it and bought another. It's not quite the quality of the last, but it is Italian and way cheaper than anywhere else. It was a miracle, however, the way it was packed that it arrived unbroken. Best deal out there for the amature.

First off, this is a great carboy for brewing. Since you do not have to be concerned with head-space I use this as my primary. Even vigorous fermentation of a 5-gallon batch does not reach the airlock. What kind of sucks is Amazon's labeled shipping. This says it is Prime Eligible in both the general search results and in the product description, but when you go to checkout nothing but standard shipping can now be selected. I say "now" as I had ordered one a couple weeks ago and could select Prime shipping even though it did not show as such on the receipt. I got the carboy on the second day. When I went back to order a second the Prime option was nowhere to be found. When I called Amazon the rep told me it was not eligible and she would have their programming team remove the indicator. One and a half weeks later it still shows. So to summarize, carboy good, Amazon weak.

These were very inexpensive in the fall of 2010. They were out of stock when I ordered, but it eventually showed up about 5 weeks later in great condition. I've used it as a primary fermentor and is now working as a secondary. Worth a look now and again to see if they drop the price down to just over the qualifying amount for Super Saver Shipping. ***UPDATE*** ***UPDATE*** ***UPDATE*** ***UPDATE*** 5/26/11 My first one was knocked off the shelf . . . long story. . . no beer was hurt in the accident. So I just ordered a new one from Amazon - 2 days later it arrived. Still a great price (although the price seems to have crept up a bit). Mine says: Made in Spain ***UPDATE*** ***UPDATE*** ***UPDATE*** ***UPDATE*** 08/18/2011 My trusty 6.5 gallon Carboy took a tumble off the drying stand (the stand doesn't work well with the carboy handle). Went back to find this one was $50... Ugg. Started looking at crag's list and other options. Now it's back at $30! Also available through subscribe & save. Even better!. I'm in for one and another in 6 months. The Best Carboy deal is back.

I was very excited to find this offer on Amazon Prime for $30.00. I received it in the promised two days. The container is solidly manufactured and will be an excellent addition to my brewing supplies. I always fill my carboys with water prior to initial use to mark off the gallon marks for later reference. This Carboy held 6 gallons; marked at 2 inches or so below the bottom neck ring. If I needed to use it for a 6 gallon batch I would only use it for the 2nd stage of fermentation due to the lack of remaining head space at 6 gallons. I'd say it is perfectly sized for all stages of a typical 5 gallon batch of your favorite libation...cheers! The packaging was more than adequate for a safe shipment.
