I was gifted this book by a friend when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It's like having someone who has gone through it next to you 24/7. It's a really great book, but the last revised edition came out in 2011. Some information has changed since then (although almost everything is still applicable), so I would love to see an updated version of this book.

Someone had loaned this to me when I was going through chemo and radiation and I always remembered how the mixture of useful information and laughter was just the right mix. When a friend was diagnosed I knew this was just the book for her to help her with her journey.

I had already called my doctor to ask for some medication for my anxiety.....then the book arrived.....interestingly on the afternoon following my second surgery to clean up the margins of my lumpectomy.....I am 30% of the way through this book. I wish that I had started reading it 8 weeks ago. The author offers a frank, well thought out personal discussion of breast cancer for those of us with early stage breast cancer. She attacks the subject with a matter of fact no holes barred attitude which is remarkable. Thankfully much of what she has suggested to do in the early days of diagnosis is what I have already done but I will use this book as my bible as I go forward over the next weeks and months. No one gets it like someone who has been through it. Now I want her to write a book for those who are trying to support a friend or family member with breast cancer. I have had to push away a number of people who have said things which are less than helpful...Thank you for writing this book. I treasure it and will most likely not use the pharmaceutical route now to healing my soul.

This is a must read going through breast cancer . Tests and results are all explained . Available medications are explained .Treatments are explained and side effects also. Lymph node involvement is explained. Tests from the first day that you find out you have a positive needle Biopsy and how aggressive the cancer could be . The whole book is a down to earth informative bible of information . Every woman must read this informative book for her journey ahead💖

When I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer, needless to say, I felt very scared and anxious. I felt as if I had so much to learn in order to be prepared for my journey. In order to not overwhelm myself, I used the internet very little and read very few books. In the beginning, I was not as interested in a lot of medical details but wanted to know what questions to ask, what would happen with each new experience and what I could do, both physically and emotionally, to get myself through the surgery and treatment(s)needed. Deborah Cohen's book gave me what I needed: a great deal of practicle and valuable information that led me to know that there were things that I would be able to control and do. As I read the book, I began to feel less anxious and frightenened. Very good and clearly written medical information written by Dr. Robert Gelfand helped me a lot. And the "rules" written for family and friends, helped me understand what my family and friends might be feeling.

...get this one. I have bought over 10 books since my diagnosis but this is the one i return to often. Not only is it knowledgeable but it is also VERY user friendly (unlike say, Dr. Susan Love's book which is a LOT more material to try and get through) This book was like sitting down with a good, funny and smart friend who had done the journey before me and was there to help me through the rough parts...just what is needed in those first few weeks of diagnosis.
