Could this be left long-term in place under mulch layer?

It's made of plastic/rubber, so I see no reason it couldn't be left connected to a hose under a layer of mulch.

How long do you need to leave your water on to water with this devise?

There's no answer to this question. It depends on the soil, the size of the plant's root ball, the outside temperature and humidity, etc. However with that being said, I planted over (50) 12 foot tall Green Giants who had quite a large root ball with complete 100% success. Those same trees are over 15 feet tall now. I used to run the water for one hour per tree and the water was just enough to make small water fountains (~ 2" tall) coming out of each opening. The beauty of the device is that almost 100% of the water goes to the root ball with very little waste. A small plant would take considerably less time/water. Hope this helps.

How difficult is it to get in position? I would have to put it away after each use, then put back 2-3 times a week. .

I have had tis product since 2017 and am very happy with it. I do not find it difficult to put in place. I move it to different trees and find it quite easy to place.

Can this be used for a potted tree? (30 gal planter approx 2' across)
