How low below the target can you put this ? At my club it probably be about 8 ft ?

it is a good camera mine sits about 6 feet below the target and i don't have any problems. i use the targets that make orange marks when hit and they are abundantly clear and i use it at 500 yards. makes it nice to not have to have a spotter when i want to shoot alone.

Is this a new model ?

It's the model featured on SME's website, not the older 'ammo box' style.

Is this the ammo can style or no? Reviews say no, but the description says it is.

The one I purchased was not the ammo can style. The picture at the time showed the SME Long Range camera but the description like you stated said ammo can.

Is this better quality than the ammo can style?

Quality is good, used at 300 yards with no problems. Haven’t looked at or used ammo can style.
