It does the job, but would be better with a pronunciation guide
I'm working through this book, along with several other learning aides, homemade flash cards, and conversation practice. Having used several Spanish-language books in the same series years ago, I chose this one as it felt 'comfortable.' It does an adequate job of explaining Portuguese grammar. My biggest complaint is that there is not a pronunciation guide. I would expect this to be the first section of such a book! But perhaps there is a place for a beginning grammar book that neglects pronunciation. *shrug* If you buy this book, just know you'll need to find a pronunciation guide elsewhere (Google has many).

Learning a new language is difficult
I had been planning a trip to Portugal which has now been called off due to the Corona virus. But I am using my quarantine time to study Portuguese! I'll be ready with a basic understand when I do feel safe to travel again. This book has little quizzes and some explanations.

Portuguese from PORTUGAL!
Very difficult to find a Portuguese language workbook that actually uses the dialoque from Portugal. It is very different than Portuguese in Brazil. So if you're wanting to learn Portuguese from Portugal, this is the book for you!

A truly basic workbook
I purchased this workbook as a general overview of Portuguese before taking another class. Here are my observations: 1. Explanations are clear 2. Practice problems are too easy and not plentiful enough 3. Biggest problem with the book - they only cover ONE verb tense.. the present tense. If you want practice problems for any of the multitude of other moods or tenses in Portuguese, you are out of luck. I may be too harsh, but even for a basic portuguese book I would expect some mention of the past tense. I would recommend the book for absolute beginners, but it isn't useful as a review book for more advanced speakers.

Excellent for basic grammar revision and vocab building
After working my way through the whole Teach Yourself Portuguese series - "get started in Portuguese", "complete Portuguese" etc. I decided to get "Basic Portuguese" by Sue-Tyson Ward (also the author of "get started in Portuguese") just for extra practice. It complements "get started" and "complete Portuguese" very well and is useful for building up vocabulary - each chapter has a grammatical topic and vocab theme. However it is basic grammar and it doesn't go further than the present tense - much like "get started". I would recommend it for people who have already learnt a little basic Portuguese - it is more of a grammar/vocab reinforcement book. As usual Amazon delivered the product in perfect condition and promptly.

very good
I'm trying to learn portuguese but learning languages is very hard for me as an individual and a native english speaker!!! this book explains very clearly the grammar as well as the sentence meanings. i do like how they have included examples of brazilian portuguese i think that's very inclusive to those who want to learn brazilian portuguese but for me who is trying to learn portuguese from portugal (im from england so learning brazilian isnt logical as ive never been and probably wont ever go to as i like to keep local to europe) this book is a godsend because so many books out there are for brazilian portuguese. I Recommend using a pencil or rubout pen if you want to write in this book, not a normal pen, because then you can rub out the answers and practise again.
