Yea, Digikey has them for $1.69 a piece, not sure if this is for 1 or maybe 5... best to ask seller.

Q: This doesn't seem to fit in a breadboard. What's a good way to test? Would it fit an ic socket and then in breadboard?

It's a standard DIP package so it will fit along the middle track of a breadboard. You may need to bend the pins slightly to get them to fit. This is normal as not all breadboards have the same spacing.
